3 Xero hacks every business owner needs to know

Xero is the ultimate workhorse for your business finances - making those everyday accounting tasks a breeze and giving you confidence in your numbers.

There are lots of simple tips which can get your books done even faster that you may not know about. Read on to find out our favourite three time-saving shortcuts.

1.Use Xero’s inbuilt calculator

Did you know that Xero has its own in-built calculator. This essentially means you can calculate directly in a field (when you're creating an invoice for example).

You can add (+), subtract (-), multiply (*) and divide (/) in a price or quantity field just like you would in Excel.

You don’t need to dig out your calculator for these!

2. View multiple tabs at once

Need to check an invoice or bill at the same time as reconciling a bank transaction?

Sounds obvious but as Xero is cloud-based so you can view multiple tabs at once.

This saves SO much precious time navigating back and forth when finding what you need when you're already working on something in an open tab.

Just right click on the link in your browser and select Open a New Tab.

3. Use the + icon for common quick actions

On the top right hand side of the blue bar in Xero, you’ll see a small plus icon (+).

Click this icon to quickly access several different functions including creating a bill, quote or invoice. It saves a lot of separate clicks!

Bonus tip: next the the + button, there is a search button. Use this search bar to quickly find contacts, invoices, bills, purchase orders, quotes, bank transactions and amounts. It saves so much time digging around Xero to locate something you’re after!

We love Xero here at Beaver & Bee Chartered Accountants which is why we work exclusively with Xero with our female entrepreneur clients. We’re only scratching the surface of the game-changing, time-saving tips here on this blog. If you’re a Xero user and would love to get more out of it or would love to start using it for your small business, why not get it in touch with us for a chat to see how we could help.
